Postal authority to release stamp on S D Burman
Agartala, Sep 29 : The Indian postal authority has announced to release a stamp on late music maestro S D Burman on his 101st birth anniversary on October 1 in Agartala.

Official sources said here today that the Chief
Post Master General (North East Circle) would release the stamp on the
musical genius who enthralled generations through his soulful
compositions.
The music of Burman, who died in October 1975,
emerged from the core of perpetual Bengal life and as part of his birth
anniversary, the Tripura government would celebrate the day of with a
colourful programme.
The Tripura government felicitated his
84-year-old ailing wife at a simple function at Khar, Mumbai's western
suburb, on September 15.

Affairs Minister Anil Sarkar, accompanied by his department's Director
Subhas Das, presented a traditional shawl and an S D Burman centenary plaque to Meera Devi along with a cheque of Rs 100,000.
''S D Burman is very much alive within us in our mind and soul through
his music,'' Mr Sarkar said adding, the simplicity of the maestro would
make the common man remember him forever, as he was friendly with the
masses though he belonged to the royal family.
Mr Das said the
state government would celebrate Burman's birth anniversary at a
colourful function here and a commemorative book on the maestro would
also be published on the occasion.

Meera Dev Burman felicitated

Meera Dev Burman, lyricist and widow of legendary music composer Sachin Dev Burman, was felicitated by the Tripura goverment in the house of his late son Rahul Dev Burman in Mumbai.
Tripura Information and Culture Minister Anil Sarkar felicitated her yesterday on behalf of the state government. Meera's daughter-in-law, singer Asha Bhosle, also was present.
Nonagenarian Meera, suffering from health problems and bed-ridden for years, could neither speak nor respond. Sarkar presented her a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh and gifts.
Maestro Sachin Dev Burman belonged to the erstwhile royal family of Tripura.
